The Australian Media Oral History Group (AMOHG) and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) have established a groundbreaking research link.

AMOHG has nominated three members as first points of contact for any student or staff queries on archival holdings at the National Film and Sound Archive and in some cases with other archives and with AMOHG members’ own knowledge of its 30 year history of recordings – most of which are lodged with NFSA but can be sourced with greater ease thanks to the voluntary assistance of:

  • Graham ShirleyAFTRS alumni from the Class of 1973, author, and previous curator and historian with NFSA
  • Margaret Leask notable historian and oral historian of media, performing and visual arts
  • Storry Walton – Former Director AFTRS Interim Training Scheme (1973-1975); Director AFTRS 1980-1985; producer, oral historian

The main points about this arrangement are:

  • The arrangement is informal
  • The arrangement will be facilitated by the AFTRS Library
  • AMOHG members’ role will be to assist as a quick and knowledgeable reference to find useful archival material, particularly where sources are difficult to find
  • AMOHG members may be able to assist further from their own experience and knowledge of the industry

The experience and knowledge of AMOHG members are extensive, representing nearly all areas of sound and screen industries in Australia, and overseas.
