Martha Ansara is a retired award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer and producer.
She is the author of The Shadowcatchers: a history of cinematography in Australia.
Martha has a long history of involvement in industry organisations and campaigns, including Motion Picture Subcommittee AT&AEA, Film and Broadcast Industries Oral History Group, Archive Forum, Ozdox: the Australian documentary forum and women’s groups and initiatives. She has been a selector and juror for film awards and festivals, film funding project assessor, and a film valuer – Cultural Gifts Program.
Martha is a recipient of the AFI Byron Kennedy award, a Life Member of Australian Director’s Guild, and of Australian Cinematographer’s Society (ACS) Hall of Fame.
She is a Cinematography graduate AFTRS, M.A. Applied History (UTS), tertiary film lecturer, author (Australian film history/Aboriginal history), prolific oral historian.
