Andrew L. Urban is a film journalist, film critic and lecturer in film, and Editor & Publisher of urbancinefile, Australia’s online movie magazine, published since 1997.
From 1985 to 2004, he was Australian Bureau Chief for the London-based international film industry publications, Screen International and latterly Moving Pictures.
Since 2005, Andrew has presented a regular contemporary movie appreciation course for Sydney University’s Centre for Continuing Education; Movies Now runs for 6 week seasons several times a year at Dendy Newtown, screening films (unannounced) prior to their commercial release followed by a discussion with special guests.
Andrew was Channel Host for World Movies from April 2002 to November 2006, introducing the highlights of each week on Monday nights, and the Sunday Premieres, and presented nearly 900 movies.
In 2007, Andrew was commissioned to edit & produce The Knowledge, a series of almost 100 on-camera interviews for the Centre for Screen Business at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, exploring the film and television business in Australia.
Andrew is also known as the creator & on camera interviewer on Front Up, the prime time program on SBS TV (1991 – 2004) in which he meets people at random in the streets of Australia and has a conversation about their life experiences.
